Lord Aeck Sargent was engaged by The Museum School, a K-8 charter school under the DeKalb County School System, to design a new permanent facility that would replace the school's temporary modular classrooms. The project was centered on creating a space that reflected the school’s philosophy of encouraging hands-on learning through exploration and collaboration. The design included adaptive reuse of existing classrooms, integrating art and music suites, and the development of a state-of-the-art media center, outdoor classrooms, and a rain garden. This comprehensive approach also accommodated the school's future growth while maintaining its educational mission. The project’s phased development saw the renovation of 13 classrooms in the initial phase and expanded to include a media and learning center equipped with modern technology pods and maker spaces. Lord Aeck Sargent performed detailed site assessments, phasing studies, and program verification to ensure a thoughtful design that aligned with the school’s educational objectives while supporting its capital fundraising efforts.
