Georgia State Capitol Rehabilitation

The Georgia State Capitol Rehabilitation, initiated in 1993, is an ongoing project involving multiple phases of restoration and modernization. As the architect for this effort, Lord Aeck Sargent has played a pivotal role in preserving the Capitol’s original 19th-century architectural character while integrating 21st-century systems and functionalities. Key phases of the work include the restoration of significant public spaces, the House and Senate chambers, and the exterior masonry. The project has required meticulous research and attention to detail, particularly in maintaining the Capitol's historic fabric while accommodating modern mechanical, electrical, and technological requirements. The rehabilitation continues to ensure the Capitol remains a functional and iconic space, representing Georgia’s government and history.
