Clemson University

Freeman Hall Expansion

As the first building designed by Rudolph E. Lee on the campus, Freeman Hall held historical significance, originally housing industrial engineering and a foundry. Over time, much of its original design was obscured by renovations and additions. Lord Aeck Sargent's addition aimed to revitalize this legacy, incorporating an auditorium, faculty offices, graduate workstations, collaborative public spaces, and administrative suites while respecting the campus's architectural heritage. Strategically situated on Fernow Street, the addition fosters connectivity with the existing building and campus. This multistory addition actively engages the campus thoroughfare, embodying sustainability principles with its LEED Gold Certification.
