The Southern Environmental Law Center’s new regional headquarters in Charlottesville represents an integration of sustainable design and efficient systems. The project, situated on an urban infill site with a Walk Score of 98, leverages its downtown location to encourage alternative commuting options. The fit-out of the office, located within a mass timber structure, exposes key structural elements, minimizing the need for additional materials and reducing maintenance costs. Sustainable strategies employed throughout include high-efficiency LED lighting, Energy Star-rated equipment, low-flow water fixtures, and a carbon dioxide monitoring system to enhance indoor air quality. These measures ensure the headquarters aligns with the client’s mission of promoting environmental stewardship while incorporating replicable green building technologies and practices.

"People are very happy here and when I gave a little tour to a few friends, their main comment was how much it reflected the attention and care for employees living in the space."
