Freeman Hall Expansion

The Freeman Hall Addition at Clemson University revitalizes the historic building designed by Rudolph E. Lee, blending its legacy with modern spaces designed for student success. Originally home to industrial engineering and a foundry, Freeman Hall’s architectural significance had been altered by numerous renovations over time. The new addition restores its prominence on campus while incorporating key student-focused features such as graduate workstations, team areas, and collaborative public spaces. Located at a prominent intersection on Fernow Street, the design fosters greater connectivity with the campus and enhances the learning environment through sustainable elements like abundant natural light and energy-efficient systems. Obtaining LEED Gold certification, the building reduces energy consumption and incorporates eco-friendly materials, aligning with Clemson’s commitment to sustainability and academic excellence. The addition not only honors Freeman Hall’s historical roots but also provides a dynamic, student-centered hub for the Industrial Engineering program.
