The transformation of O’Shaughnessy Hall at Virginia Tech marks a pivotal shift from its dormitory roots to become the vibrant hub of the Leadership and Social Change Residential College. As part of a campus-wide initiative, the renovation, completed by Lord Aeck Sargent in collaboration with Moseley Architects, reimagines the space to foster multigenerational and multidisciplinary interactions centered on leadership development and social impact. Through careful planning, common areas for students and faculty, faculty offices, and versatile outdoor amenities were seamlessly integrated, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all students, regardless of financial resources. By balancing the preservation of 350 beds with the addition of new program spaces, such as classrooms and faculty apartments, the project underscores the university's commitment to student success and holistic growth. The newly reinvigorated O’Shaughnessy Hall stands as a testament to Virginia Tech's dedication to empowering its students to effect positive change within their communities.
