Georgia State Capitol Rehabilitation
Since 1993, the Georgia State Capitol has undergone a meticulous historic preservation led by Lord Aeck Sargent, focusing on revitalizing this 19th-century landmark while meeting contemporary needs. This phased rehabilitation project has involved careful conservation of the Capitol’s original materials, from the detailed restoration of plaster ceilings and native Georgia marble to the revival of historic woodwork and paint colors. Attention to the original design intent has been a priority, guiding decisions from the reproduction of Victorian-era lighting fixtures to the restoration of historic windows and masonry. Integrating modern technology without compromising the building's heritage, the project has introduced discreet updates to HVAC and electrical systems. Each phase of the preservation underscores a commitment to maintaining the Capitol’s architectural authenticity while supporting its ongoing role as Georgia’s seat of government.
