Lord Aeck Sargent partnered with Georgia Tech to restore the Carnegie Building, an essential piece of the university's history, originally constructed in 1907 with funds from Andrew Carnegie. The restoration aimed to revert the building’s exterior to its original state, utilizing historical images and materials analysis to guide the process. Efforts included replicating the original wood windows and doors, meticulously cleaning and repointing the masonry, and addressing past alterations that had compromised the building's integrity. Notably, cementitious mortar from prior renovations was replaced with historically accurate material, and the roof was entirely refurbished to resolve water infiltration issues. Additional site improvements focused on safety and accessibility while enhancing the building’s historic aesthetic, resulting in a renewed landmark that harmonizes with Georgia Tech's architectural legacy.
