The restoration of the 1899 Lavaca County Courthouse, overseen by Lord Aeck Sargent, honored the architectural legacy of this Romanesque Revival structure, designed by Eugene T. Heiner. Undertaken as part of the Texas Historical Commission’s preservation initiative, the project required a delicate balance between historical accuracy and modern needs. Key elements, such as the courthouse’s slate roof and intricate tile flooring, were restored using authentic materials sourced to match the originals. The restoration team navigated the challenges of a modest county budget, employing traditional craftsmanship and working closely with the Texas Historical Commission to ensure the courthouse’s architectural heritage was faithfully preserved.
