The Biodesign Institute

Lord Aeck Sargent spearheaded the design of a cutting-edge interdisciplinary research facility, encompassing Buildings A and B, for Arizona State University's Biodesign Institute. Building A, spanning 176,018 square feet, accommodates nano-research, microbiology, and bioinformatics, featuring highly sensitive research tools in the basement and flexible laboratory space on upper floors. Building B, covering 174,373 square feet, expands upon ASU's commitment to pioneering research, housing high-tech laboratories including BSL-2 and BSL-3 containment areas and light-filled office spaces. Both buildings promote collaboration across scientific fields through flexible design modules, while emphasizing sustainability, earning accolades from the USGBC and R&D Magazine Laboratory of the Year distinction in 2006. Collaborating with Gould Evans Associate Architects, the Biodesign Institute stands as a beacon of sustainable design and innovative research.
