Georgia Public Health Laboratory - Waycross

Lord Aeck Sargent designed the Waycross Laboratory as an extension of the award-winning Georgia Public Health Laboratory in Decatur, serving as a vital branch facility for the State of Georgia's Public Health Laboratories. Situated in an industrial park, the 23,840-square-foot, one-story structure accommodates the growing demand for Public Health Laboratory work, specializing in bacteriology, immunology, and bio/chemical terrorism preparedness. The facility houses two BSL-3 laboratory suites with state-of-the-art technologies for safety and environmental protection, including air filtration and wastewater decontamination systems. Designed with flexibility and growth in mind, the Waycross Laboratory features adaptable laboratory spaces, a mail screening area, training facilities, and offices. Its architectural design integrates salvaged granite, steel shingles, and glass, prioritizing natural light and energy efficiency. The lab not only meets rigorous testing needs but also serves as an economic development magnet for the Waycross community, reflecting a commitment to functionality, safety, and sustainability.
