Whitney Laboratory Academic Building

Lord Aeck Sargent designed the Marine Research Institute Building for the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, a leading-edge research center founded in 1974 by the University of Florida. Located on the picturesque Northeast Coast of Florida, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, the new facility will embody the lab's commitment to marine science and sustainable campus development. The building will feature state-of-the-art research labs, a specialized sea turtle research center and hospital, offices, and an educational display area, fostering collaboration among more than 70 researchers and staff focused on marine models for biomedical and neural research. Designed to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, the institute will co-locate researchers, students, and administrators in a modern, purpose-built environment that supports unique research needs. Indoor and outdoor gathering spaces will further promote collaboration while minimizing environmental impact. This transformative project will amplify the Whitney Lab's capabilities in biodiversity, ocean health, marine chemistry, neuroscience, and other critical scientific areas, reinforcing its mission to "Go Greater for all of us."
