Lord Aeck Sargent’s landscape architecture approach to the Decatur First United Methodist Church project focuses on integrating a new playground into the church’s landscape while preserving its mature trees—a defining feature of the site. Collaborating closely with the City of Decatur, arborists, contractors, and equipment manufacturers, the firm’s role emphasized minimizing environmental impact through careful spatial planning, equipment selection, and siting strategies that protect the established canopy. This project, designed to meet Pre-K requirements, also seeks to create an accessible, inviting space for community engagement. Through mindful integration of natural elements with functional play structures, Lord Aeck Sargent balances the church's educational needs with sustainable landscape stewardship, reinforcing a community-oriented approach to design.
