Ann Arbor Southside Development
Located along Ann Arbor’s sprawling commercial south side, Arbor South is a transformational development project that reimagines an aging office park into a multi-faceted transit-oriented mixed-use district. Spearheaded through a joint venture between Oxford Companies and Crawford Hoying, it is the city’s most ambitious private investment in decades, with an estimated total value exceeding $600 million. Lord Aeck Sargent has led the shaping of Arbor South since its inception – first in a role as lead urban designer and later evolving into lead architect, landscape architect and interior designer.
Arbor South’s multi-phased development plan includes more than 1,000 new housing units integrated with a range of retail, commercial and office uses. The district is arranged around “The Grove” – a dynamic new public park and plaza that serves as its centerpiece. It is the first project to advance under Ann Arbor’s new TC-1 zoning ordinance which was created to encourage density and transit-oriented development beyond the City’s Downtown Core.
