Lord Aeck Sargent was commissioned by a consortium of four neighborhood associations—Inman Park, Old Fourth Ward, Reynoldstown, and Cabbagetown—to lead the development of a comprehensive master plan for the Hulsey Yard site. This 78-acre property, a former railroad transfer facility, holds strategic significance due to its proximity to the Atlanta BeltLine and adjacent historic neighborhoods. The master plan integrates a variety of mixed land uses, open spaces, and a reconnected street grid, emphasizing strong community engagement and public input. The planning process involved over 1,500 participants through a combination of in-person and online sessions.
The project envisions a blend of public spaces, trails, and multi-use development that harmonizes with the surrounding urban fabric while preparing for future transit integration along the BeltLine. Key considerations included addressing the physical and socio-economic divide caused by the site's historical industrial use. The final master plan reflects a community-driven vision that balances the realities of market trends with a focus on connectivity, density, and sustainable urban development.
