Lord Aeck Sargent was commissioned to develop the inaugural master plan for the University of North Georgia following its consolidation in 2013. This comprehensive planning project spanned multiple campuses, each with distinct challenges and growth trajectories. On the historic Dahlonega campus, the focus was on balancing the preservation of historical assets with the need for enhanced pedestrian connectivity and facility improvements. For the Gainesville campus, the plan anticipated significant future growth driven by regional economic development, emphasizing the creation of a cohesive campus identity and enhanced connectivity to support a potential transition from a commuter to a residential campus. The Oconee campus, one of the most utilized in the University System, required strategies for accommodating growth within a constrained footprint while fostering a sense of place through new green spaces. At the Cumming campus, the plan addressed the needs of a rapidly expanding commuter student population by improving facilities and integration within the growing service area. The master plan holistically addressed the unique character and mission of each campus, integrating them into a unified whole while respecting their individual identities and contexts.
