Lord Aeck Sargent was engaged to conduct a comprehensive study for the GSB-CBA Building at UT Austin to prepare for its transformation into a multidisciplinary hub aligned with the University’s evolving strategic goals. The project scope included assessing current infrastructure and programming to meet future requirements for interdisciplinary collaboration, specialized research, and modernized teaching spaces. A phased renovation plan was developed, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, wayfinding improvements, and tailored spaces for the needs of diverse academic units. This included detailed space planning, infrastructure evaluations, and the integration of advanced systems to support innovative programs while maintaining the distinct identities of user groups. The GSB/CBA study addressed critical goals, such as optimizing space utilization, enhancing collaboration between schools, modernizing HVAC and electrical systems, and aligning renovations with future-proof building standards. Comprehensive programming and test-fit analyses provided the foundation for infrastructure updates, ensuring compliance with accessibility, safety, and energy efficiency standards. The resulting design aimed to create a functional, innovative, and vibrant academic environment that supports the university’s mission of excellence in education and research.
